Manipur joined the nation in commemorating Martyrs' Day, also recognized as 'Shaheed Diwas' or 'Sarvodaya Day', to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence. This day holds significance as it marks the 76th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, known as the Father of the Nation.

The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, serving as the Chief Guest, led the people in paying homage by laying a wreath at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal. During the event, the Governor reiterated the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, which embodied the spirit of love, non-violence, kindness, mutual brotherhood, and forgiveness, and appealed to everyone to follow and remember his teachings. Chief Minister Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and top civil and police officials also laid wreaths at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

As part of the observation, three Bhajans, namely, "Sumiran karle mere mana," "Vaishnav Jana too," and "Raghupati Raghav raja ram," were sung. A siren sounded from 10:59 to 11:00 am as a warning signal for the observance of a two-minute silence. Another siren sounded from 11:02 am to 11:03 am as the closing signal.
