Narendra Modi in Gujarat: PM inaugurates Sudarshan Setu | Facts about Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge

Sudarshan Setu, also known as the Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge, spans 2.5 kilometres and is of great importance to locals and pilgrims visiting the Dwarkadhish Temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this bridge on Sunday, February 25, marking it as India's longest cable-stayed bridge. Costing around ₹980 crore, the bridge is a vital link between the Okha mainland and the Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat.

In anticipation of the inauguration, Modi shared his excitement for the Sudarshan Setu and other projects in Gujarat, highlighting the bridge's role in enhancing connectivity. He later praised the bridge as a symbol of connection between lands and people.

Key features of the Sudarshan Setu include its role in improving regional connectivity, its status as India's longest cable-stayed bridge, and its incorporation of solar panels on the footpath to generate one megawatt of electricity. The bridge boasts four lanes and 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on each side. It features a decorative footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna.

Before the bridge's construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach the Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt Dwarka. Now, the bridge is a significant tourist attraction, offering both convenience and a scenic route for travellers.

Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated Gujarat's first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot and laid the foundation for various projects totalling ₹48,000 crore across different state and central departments, including NHAI, railways, energy and petrochemicals, roads, and buildings.
