Disappointed that Apple only announced a collaboration with ChatGPT at the recent Worldwide Developers Conference? Don't worry, because according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman—who has an excellent track record on all things Apple—the company might announce a deal with Google for the Gemini chatbot. Gurman suggests that Apple could reveal "at least" one AI chatbot partnership later this year, potentially with Google Gemini. In his Power On newsletter, Gurman also mentions that Apple is interested in Anthropic and doesn't rule out a future deal with them.
Apple is not interested in Meta. Despite recent reports suggesting that Apple is in talks with Meta, which rolled out Meta AI across its platforms last week, Gurman says this is untrue. He clarifies that the two companies had one conversation in March at Meta's request, and that "Apple has zero interest in embedding Meta's service" because it believes Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic offer "superior services."
The Apple-OpenAI collaboration
Apple is integrating ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, allowing users to seamlessly access its expertise, image recognition, and document understanding within the Apple ecosystem.
With user approval, Siri can leverage ChatGPT's knowledge to provide direct answers. ChatGPT will also be integrated into Apple's writing tools for content creation and will offer image generation capabilities through Compose.
Privacy measures include IP address protection and OpenAI not storing user requests.
The ChatGPT feature, powered by GPT-4o, will be available later this year across Apple platforms, free to use with an option for subscribers to unlock additional features.
