South Seas Distilleries has launched two premium Mahura spirits: Six Brothers 1922 Resurrection and Six Brothers Small Batch (Original). With a distillation heritage dating back to 1922, South Seas Distilleries ranks among India’s oldest malt whisky producers. These new offerings are groundbreaking for the Indian spirits industry, featuring the world’s first matured Mahura spirit, double-distilled using the nation’s largest copper pot stills, resulting in some of the country’s oldest and finest luxury single malts.
The Six Brothers 1922 Resurrection is a rare, limited-edition release, with only 102 bottles available, each priced at ₹1,02,000. Aged for decades in oak barrels and with an ABV of 40%, this commemorative spirit exemplifies the excellence of Mahura distillation. Meanwhile, the Six Brothers Small Batch (Original) offers a platinum-filtered, small-batch Mahura spirit characterized by a smooth, savory profile and a peppery finish, showcasing the craftsmanship behind India’s first luxury heritage spirit made from Mahura flowers.
The Mahura flower, also known as Mahua, Mhowra, or Mahuva depending on the region, holds a significant place in India’s cultural heritage. Native to the Indian subcontinent, its sweet, aromatic nectar has been integral to local traditions for centuries. For generations, this nectar has been used to produce unique liquors and beverages, embodying India’s rich cultural legacy. Whether found in a local brew or a refined spirit, Mahura represents a revival of ancient customs and celebrations, merging tradition with modern craftsmanship.
