Vadodara boat capsize Highlights: 16 dead, 10 rescued; Gujarat hands case to Vadodara DM wants report in 10 days

A tragic incident unfolded during a school picnic near Vadodara city in Gujarat, as a boat carrying 14 students and two teachers capsized in Harni Lake on Thursday. The group, consisting of two dozen students and four teachers, was on a picnic when the boat overturned in the afternoon. As of now, 14 children and two teachers have lost their lives, while a student who was rescued is undergoing treatment at SSG Hospital. A search operation is in progress to locate the missing persons.

The Prime Minister's office expressed distress over the loss of lives and announced a ₹2 lakh ex-gratia from the PMNRF (Prime Minister's National Relief Fund) for the next of kin of each deceased. Additionally, Rs. 50,000 would be provided to the injured.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, accompanied by Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, visited the injured at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected, and the investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
