Mahua Moitra, Expelled From Lok Sabha Last Month, Vacates Delhi Bungalow

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, who faced expulsion from Lok Sabha due to unethical conduct last month, has complied with the eviction notice served earlier this week, thereby vacating her government bungalow in Delhi. The residence, located at House number 9B Telegraph Lane, was fully vacated by 10 am on January 19, 2023, as confirmed by Ms. Moitra's lawyers. They further informed that possession was handed over to the Directorate of Estates, which is now engaged in the due process of inspection.

The Centre had issued a stern eviction notice, demanding Mahua Moitra's immediate vacation of the bungalow. The notice, issued by the Directorate of Estates responsible for managing government properties, explicitly warned that failure to vacate voluntarily could result in eviction using necessary force.

Despite the Centre allowing Mahua Moitra ample opportunity, she reportedly failed to prove that she was not an unauthorized occupant. On January 19, 2023, the premises were vacated before authorities arrived, and no eviction took place, according to Ms. Moitra's legal representatives.

Efforts by Mahua Moitra to seek relief from the Delhi High Court were also unsuccessful on Thursday, with the court refusing to stay the eviction order and instructing her to vacate the government bungalow immediately. The eviction saga unfolded following Mahua Moitra's expulsion from Lok Sabha on December 8, 2022, for alleged unethical conduct, including accepting gifts and sharing Parliament website credentials.
