Diamonds Hidden in Noodle Packets, Gold Valued at Rs 6.46 Cr Seized at Mumbai Airport; 4 Held
Customs seize Rs 6.46 crore of diamonds & gold at Mumbai airport. Passengers arrested for smuggling.
According to an official, the Mumbai airport's Customs department confiscated diamonds hidden in noodle packets and gold concealed in passengers' belongings, amounting to a total value of Rs 6.46 crore. The Customs official disclosed that during the weekend, four passengers were apprehended following the seizure of gold weighing more than 6.815 kg, valued at Rs 4.44 crore, and diamonds worth Rs 2.02 crore. One Indian traveller en route from Mumbai to Bangkok was caught smuggling diamonds concealed in noodle packets inside his trolley bag and was subsequently arrested.
Another foreign national travelling from Colombo to Mumbai was intercepted with gold bars and a cut piece totalling 321 grams, hidden in her undergarments. Additionally, 10 Indian nationals—two each travelling from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and one each from Bahrain, Doha, Riyadh, Muscat, Bangkok, and Singapore—were intercepted. They were found carrying 6.199 kg of gold, valued at Rs 4.04 crore, concealed in various ways such as within the body and baggage. The release did not provide further details but mentioned that three of them were arrested later.
