There was a time when Dharmendra was extremely protective of his wife, Hema Malini, famously known as the "Dream Girl" of Bollywood. In one of his interviews, the actor from "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" mentioned that he and Hema used to have arguments because he requested her not to take photos with other actors, and she didn't always agree. Dharmendra stated, "I object to certain poses with other heroes, you know." In response, Hema countered, "As if I can't object! So many times I have caught him in all kinds of pictures with all kinds of people."

In an interview with Stardust, Hema Malini revealed, "We begin each day with an argument. We seem to be arguing all the time. Usually, it's him who eventually gives in, and then we reconcile. When he comes to see me early in the morning, he asks, 'Why do you have such a serious expression today, and why are you ruining my mood so early?' As if I have control over it, I was born with this face. And then, we end up having a disagreement."

Despite various challenges, Hema Malini has always found solace in Dharmendra and considers him her most beloved person. She expressed her unwavering commitment to their marriage, saying, "I will never let anyone break this. From my side, at least, it is forever."

In a recent interaction, Hema Malini praised her husband for his kissing scene with Shabana Azmi in Karan Johar's directorial debut, "RARKPK," and even stated that she would also do kissing scenes if they were required by the characters. Currently, Hema and Dharmendra live separately, with the veteran actor spending time with his first wife, Prakash Kaur.
