On Thursday, the government-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) reported a profit of over three times its previous figure, reaching Rs 2,223 crore for the third quarter ending December 2023.

In the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the bank had recorded a net profit of Rs 629 crore.

The total income for the quarter under review rose to Rs 29,962 crore, up from Rs 25,722 crore in the same period last year, as stated in a regulatory filing by PNB. The bank's interest income also saw an increase, reaching Rs 27,289 crore compared to Rs 22,384 crore in the third quarter of the preceding fiscal year.

Additionally, the bank's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) decreased to 6.24% of gross loans at the end of December 2023, down from 9.76% a year ago. Similarly, net NPAs, or bad loans, showed a decline to 0.96% from 3.30% at the end of the third quarter of the previous fiscal year.
