अंकित तिवारी के खिलाफ जांच सीबीआई को सौंपने की ईडी की याचिका पर तमिलनाडु सरकार को कोर्ट का नोटिस।

On Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu Government in response to a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), challenging the state's investigation into bribery allegations against one of its officers, Ankit Tiwari. The ED's request aims to shift the bribery probe from the state's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption (DVAC) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan, constituting the Supreme Court bench handling the case, directed Tamil Nadu to submit all collected materials at the next hearing.

During the proceedings, the court underscored the importance of establishing a fair and transparent mechanism to ensure an unbiased investigation, preventing suspects from escaping justice. The court suggested applying such a mechanism universally across states, emphasizing the need to consider inter-state implications while ensuring that the guilty are punished and vindictive arrests are avoided. Justice Kant stressed the importance of eliminating concerns about political vendettas. Although the court refrained from commenting on the filing of the PIL before the High Court and the subsequent order, it emphasized the significance of investigating fairly and transparently.

The court acknowledged that the ED might have legitimate cases to investigate and cautioned against overlooking genuine cases due to the agency handling them. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED, informed the court that ED offices were raided, and the Tamil Nadu DVAC seized materials unrelated to the implicated officer, noting that Ministers of the State Government were also under the ED's scrutiny.
