Bihar: After 10 hours with Lalu Yadav, ED to question RJD's Tejashwi Yadav on the land-for-jobs case today

On Tuesday, Tejashwi Yadav, the former deputy chief minister of Bihar and leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), appeared at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Patna for questioning in connection with the land-for-jobs case. This development follows the over 10-hour interrogation of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad related to the same case.

The Enforcement Directorate, investigating the money laundering aspect of the case, had issued summons to both Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav on January 19 when they failed to appear on earlier scheduled dates. Tejashwi Yadav's summon for questioning was slated for Tuesday.

Addressing the situation, Misa Bharti, daughter of Lalu Yadav and a Rajya Sabha MP, shared with the media, "This is not a new thing. This greeting card is being sent to those who are not coming with them. Whenever any agency calls our family, we go there and cooperate with them and answer their questions." She emphasized the family's consistent cooperation with investigative agencies.

Rohini Acharya, another daughter of Lalu Prasad, expressed discontent with the ED's questioning of her father and criticized the central agency. In a statement, she remarked, "Sab ko malum hai papa ki kya halat hai, bina madad ke chal nahi sakte phir bhi kitna giroge gidaro...Yeh gudri ka lal Lalu hai, sher akela hai, major nahi," which translates to "Everyone knows my father's health condition, he can't walk without support but how low will you jackals get? This is poor man's son, Lalu, the lion is alone but not weak."

The land-for-jobs case revolves around allegations during Lalu Yadav's tenure as Union railway minister from 2004-09. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case, alleging that jobs in Group D posts within the railway were exchanged for plots of land either gifted or sold at extremely low prices by the beneficiaries to Lalu Yadav's family members.

As the ED continues its investigation into the money laundering angle, the questioning of both Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav sheds light on the complexities of the case. The family's assertion of cooperating with investigative agencies contrasts with the expressed discontent and criticism from some members, highlighting the charged nature of the political and legal developments surrounding the matter.
