Tage Rita, once an agricultural engineer and now an entrepreneur, has firmly established India's presence on the global wine scene with her organic Kiwi wine label, Naara Aaba. This groundbreaking endeavour not only has garnered nationwide acclaim but has also emerged as a case study illustrating innovation and women's entrepreneurship.

It's noteworthy that Rita's Kiwi wine, Naara Aaba, has been selected as a subject for study by the Richard School of Business Foundation, Richard Ivey School of Business, and the University of Western Ontario.

Meaning "father's name" in the local dialect, Naara Aaba represents India's inaugural Kiwi wine, sourced from organic kiwis cultivated in the valley. Rita embarked on this journey in 2017, investing in a boutique winery to address the surplus kiwi production in the region without a guaranteed market. Her solution was to transform these fruits into wine, ensuring a steady market for the Kiwi Growers Cooperative Society and individual farmers in Arunachal Pradesh. Naara Aaba's winemaking process is deeply rooted in tradition, refined over six years of meticulous research and planning. Initially producing 20,000 litres, the winery has since expanded to a capacity of 60,000 litres annually, benefiting 300 farmers in its inaugural year alone. The wine, ideally served between six and eight degrees Celsius, undergoes a four-month journey from crushing to bottling.

Rita's achievements extend beyond the wine itself, recognized through various accolades, including the Women Transforming India Awards 2018 by the United Nations and NITI Aayog, along with the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2022. Her enterprise has created employment opportunities for many, with up to 100 seasonal workers supplementing the 25 permanent staff members.

The brand's revenue, totalling Rs 12 crore, underscores its triumph, with Rita's entrepreneurial fervour igniting a revolution in the industry, inspiring future entrepreneurs, and championing sustainable agriculture in the region.
