Navi Mumbai woman duped of Rs 1.92 crore in online share trading scam.
The accused individuals tempted the victim, a New Panvel resident, to engage in online share trading by assuring substantial returns on her investments.
According to an official statement on Wednesday, the police have filed a case against nine individuals for allegedly defrauding a 40-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, of Rs 1.92 crore in online share trading.
The accused persuaded the victim, who resides in the New Panvel area, to participate in online share trading by promising lucrative returns on her investments. She complied with the instructions provided by the accused and transferred a total of Rs 1,92,82,837 into various bank accounts since December 2023. However, despite following their instructions, she was unable to withdraw any funds later, as reported by Senior Inspector Gajanan Kadam of the Cyber Police Station to PTI.
Frustrated by the lack of response from the accused, the victim lodged a police complaint.
On Tuesday, the police registered a case against the nine individuals under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act, the official added.
