Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport variant unveiled!

Volkswagen India unveiled two new variations for the Taigun compact SUV during its annual brand conference: the GT Plus Sport and GT Line. Alongside these additions, the Taigun's variant lineup has been restructured, now offering three main trims: Chrome, Sport, and GT Edge. Bookings for the latest variants have already commenced.

Regarding the revised variant structure, the 'Chrome' lineup presents two engine options: the 1.5-litre TSI with choices of 7-speed DSG or 6-speed manual transmissions, and the 1.0-litre TSI with options of either a 6-speed AT or 6-speed MT. Meanwhile, the new 'Sport' line showcases a distinctive 'dark styled' aesthetic and features the GT Plus Sport variant with the 1.5-litre TSI powertrain, providing both 7-speed DSG and 6-speed manual transmission options. Lastly, the GT Line variant offers a 1.0-litre TSI powertrain choice and allows selection between a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Moreover, the GT Plus Sport variant of the Taigun displays various black elements on the exterior, including darkened LED headlights, a black glossy front grille, red GT badging on the grille, fender, and rear, a carbon steel grey roof, 17-inch Cassino Black Alloy Wheels, red brake callipers at the front, black-coloured roof rails, among others, distinguishing it from other variants in the lineup. Interior highlights include red ambient lighting, red-coloured stitching on the steering wheel, armrest, and seats, GT badging on the seats, and an overall blacked-out cabin.

Conversely, the GT Line variant lacks red brake callipers and the red GT badge on the grille, featuring a GT Line badge on the doors instead. Besides these differences, there are no visual distinctions between the two variants. The new Taigun GT Sport Line is available in seven exterior paint options, such as Curcuma Yellow, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, Candy White, Wild Cherry Red, Lava Blue, and Rising Blue Metallic.

Under the hood, the 1.0-litre engine on the Taigun GT Line delivers 113.43 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine on the Sport GT Plus generates 148 bhp and 250 Nm. Both options come with a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic, with the seven-speed DSG unit exclusive to the 1.5-litre engine. Lastly, the brand has announced that the Virtus sedan will also receive the GT Plus Sport variant, set to launch in the second half of 2024.
