The Lucknow police recently introduced a cutting-edge Mobile Drone Vehicle (MDV), which saw its inaugural deployment during traffic management at an IPL match held last Saturday. Multiple videos shared by the Lucknow traffic department showcased the MDV stationed at the Ahimamau intersection, vigilantly overseeing traffic around the stadium and other key areas. Additionally, authorities stated that besides traffic monitoring, the drone was utilized to surveil suspicious individuals in the vicinity.
Distinguished by its remarkable 10-hour flight duration, the MDV's drone surpasses the conventional 15–20-minute flying limit of typical drones. Developed by the city-based robotics company Roboz, led by expert Milind Raj, this initiative receives funding from the Goenka Group as part of its corporate social responsibility program.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Upendra Kumar Agrawal, explained that the drone, integrated into the vehicle, enables continuous monitoring with battery backup provided through a wired connection to a generator within the vehicle. Previously, drones could only sustain monitoring for 10-15 minutes. Equipped with a 32-inch screen, the vehicle facilitates real-time monitoring of captured images, with the drone capable of surveillance from a height of about 70 feet compared to the previous limit of 20 feet. Raj emphasized the drone's significance in monitoring sensitive events.
Company officials asserted that such an MDV marks the first of its kind to be incorporated into the Indian police department. Agrawal highlighted the system's capability to utilize criminal data from police records, aiding in the identification of potential criminals at such gatherings. Furthermore, the MDV's drone can assist in traffic management by investigating congestion causes, thus reducing the necessity for manual intervention by traffic officers, as mentioned by the Joint Commissioner of Police.
