PM Modi's Sandeshkhali reminder to Mamata in Coochbehar: ‘Culprits will spend life in jail’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed criticism towards West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting that the nation witnessed the Trinamool's exertion of influence to shield the perpetrators of the Sandeshkhali incident. He emphasized the BJP's commitment to empowering women, affirming that those responsible for the Sandeshkhali incident would face imprisonment. Modi stressed that only the BJP could address the injustices faced by women in Bengal, urging for the party's reinforcement in the state. He attributed the ordeal suffered by the women in Sandeshkhali to the mismanagement of the TMC, reiterating the BJP's pledge to ensure justice for the victims.

During his rally in Coochbehar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude towards Mamata Banerjee and the West Bengal government, reflecting on a past incident where space constraints were encountered during his previous visit, and commended the absence of such hindrances this time.

The BJP has witnessed significant electoral progress in North Bengal since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The constituencies of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal are scheduled for polling on April 19 as part of the initial phase of Bengal's seven-phase election process.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticism of the Sandeshkhali incident coincided with remarks from the Calcutta High Court, which condemned the incident and emphasized the moral responsibility of the district administration and the ruling establishment. The court's comments underscored the severity of the situation, questioning the claims of Bengal being a haven for women. The Sandeshkhali incident involved protests against Seikh Shahjahan, a now-suspended Trinamool leader, accused of land grabbing and sexual assault. Shahjahan, who evaded authorities for nearly two months, was arrested by the West Bengal police on February 29 and is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate until April 13.
