Maharashtra Opposition Seat Pact Final, Team Thackeray To Contest 21 Seats

In Mumbai, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising various opposition parties in Maharashtra, has finalized a deal for the distribution of the state's 48 Lok Sabha seats just 10 days ahead of the elections, according to senior leaders within the bloc.

The agreement grants the Shiv Sena faction led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray the largest portion, with 21 seats, while the Congress party receives 17 seats, and 10 seats are reserved for Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) group.

The Shiv Sena will contest four out of six seats in Mumbai, including North West, South Central, South, and South East, while the Congress will contest the remaining two seats - North and North Central.

The resolution of disputes over seats such as Bhiwandi and Sangli, which were claimed by multiple parties, has been achieved, with the NCP and Shiv Sena being allocated these seats. This settlement aims to ensure unity within the alliance and focus on winning the upcoming election.

Commenting on the alliance's objectives, leaders emphasized the need to challenge what they perceive as a dictatorial government, referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and expressed determination to work together to achieve victory.

Regarding candidates for seats that have not yet been announced, Sharad Pawar stated that announcements will be made shortly.

Specific candidates for Bhiwandi and Sangli have been confirmed, with Chandrahar Patil from the Thackeray-led Sena faction set to contest from Bhiwandi and Sanjaykaka Patil from the BJP seeking re-election in Sangli.

Despite efforts to include Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in the alliance, no agreement could be reached. Ambedkar accused the MVA of attempting to exploit the VBA to promote dynastic politics, leading to the breakdown of negotiations.
