Apple has been lagging behind in the generative AI competition, but the company is gearing up to close the gap with a fresh range of Macs boasting artificial intelligence capabilities, fueled by M4 chips. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, these chips will be available in three primary versions: Donan, Brava, and Hidra.

This chip overhaul will cover Apple's entire Mac lineup, spanning from a basic 14-inch MacBook Pro to high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, iMac, and Mac minis. While the MacBook Pros received an update just last October, the Mac mini's last upgrade was in January 2023, making it ripe for an update.

However, if you're anticipating an immediate release of these new PCs, it's best to temper your expectations. The M4 chip lineup is currently in the final stages of production, and historically, it takes several months for Apple to amass enough stock. According to Gurman's sources, Apple is aiming for a staggered release plan for the updated Macs, starting late this year and extending into early 2025. The initial wave will include new iMacs, a basic 14-inch MacBook Pro, high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and Mac minis, all featuring M4 chips.

But the rollout won't conclude there. Throughout 2025, Apple intends to unveil additional models equipped with M4 chips, including updates to the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air in the spring, the Mac Studio around mid-year, and the much-anticipated Mac Pro later in the year.
