Chopper raided by Income Tax dept, alleges TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee claimed on Sunday that a team from the Income Tax (IT) department had conducted a search of his helicopter in Kolkata. He expressed frustration, alleging that despite calls for the removal of top officials from various agencies, the IT department chose to conduct the search. Banerjee emphasized the lack of any findings from the raid and asserted the resilience of Bengal's resistance spirit against such actions. The TMC has long accused the BJP of orchestrating politically motivated investigations against them using federal agencies since 2014.

A senior TMC figure, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the helicopter was stationed at the Behala Flying Club airfield on the outskirts of Kolkata for a trial run in preparation for Abhishek Banerjee's upcoming flight to Tamluk in East Midnapore for a Lok Sabha campaign event on Monday. According to the source, IT department officials raided the airfield and searched the helicopter without providing any justification to the security personnel present. However, nothing of significance was found during the search, and the city police were informed of the incident.

TMC spokesperson Santanu Sen criticized the BJP, suggesting that their utilization of federal agencies in such a manner reflects their fear of Abhishek Banerjee.

The IT department's central office in Kolkata was closed on Sunday, and no official comment was available.

Rahul Sinha, former state president of the Bengal BJP unit, dismissed the notion of the raid being unusual, pointing out Banerjee's implication in ongoing investigations such as the bribe-for-job scam in the education department and the coal smuggling case. Sinha explained that various federal agencies collaborate on cases linked to each other, as mandated by the Calcutta High Court.
