"Great Response, People Voting For NDA In Record Numbers": PM On Phase 1
PM Modi hails "great response" in Phase 1 of Lok Sabha elections, notes record numbers for NDA. Voter turnout, ence in Manipur and West Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, indicating a positive trend for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). With polling conducted in 102 constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories, the Election Commission reported a national average voter turnout of 60%.
In a tweet, PM Modi thanked voters and stated, "First phase, great response! Thank you to all those who have voted today. Getting EXCELLENT feedback from today's voting. It's clear that people across India are voting for NDA in record numbers." This statement reflects the optimism within the BJP camp regarding the electoral performance.
Comparing this year's turnout to the first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where the voter turnout stood at 69.43% with 91 constituencies, the slight drop in percentage could be attributed to various factors, including changes in constituencies and voter demographics. Despite this, the Election Commission described the turnout as "high" and noted that voting remained "largely peaceful".
However, some regions witnessed incidents of violence and disruptions. In West Bengal and Manipur, particularly in areas affected by ethnic tensions, reports of violence marred the voting process. Inner Manipur Congress candidate A Bimol Akoijam alleged that BJP workers and armed groups obstructed voters from reaching polling booths. Several incidents of electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering were also reported in Inner Manipur, attributed to discontent over alleged proxy voting by armed groups.
These incidents highlight the challenges of conducting elections in certain regions where political tensions run high. Ensuring fair and peaceful elections in such areas remains a significant task for the Election Commission and law enforcement agencies.
The turnout in the first phase sets the tone for the subsequent phases of the election. The BJP's optimism regarding the voting trend suggests a positive outlook for the party and its allies in the NDA. However, it's important to note that electoral dynamics can change swiftly, and subsequent phases may bring new challenges and opportunities for all political parties.
As the nation progresses through the phases of the Lok Sabha elections, the focus will be on how voter turnout and electoral outcomes shape the political landscape of India. With each phase, the stakes get higher, and the anticipation builds as the country awaits the final results.
