Bhalla, whose recently released book ‘How We Vote’ delves into the intricacies of voter behaviour, projected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP might secure an impressive 330 to 350 seats in the current general elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) clinched a commanding victory with a total of 353 seats, of which 303 were secured by the BJP alone. In stark contrast, the main opposition, the Indian National Congress, managed to secure only 52 seats, a far cry from the NDA's dominance.
According to Bhalla's analysis, the BJP's potential to secure 330 to 350 seats is statistically plausible. Importantly, this projection is solely for the BJP, excluding its alliance partners. He suggested that the BJP might witness a notable increase of five to seven per cent in the number of seats compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
While expressing his views, Bhalla acknowledged the possibility of the upcoming election being a 'wave' election, a term often used to describe elections where a particular party or leader gains overwhelming support across various demographics.
