Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mahendra Bagri, along with two associates, was on duty when they encountered a sand-laden tractor-trolley being recklessly driven towards them. They attempted to halt the vehicle, but the situation quickly turned grim. The driver, realizing the gravity of the situation, abandoned the tractor, fleeing the scene. However, the out-of-control vehicle ended up colliding with a culvert and overturning, resulting in the unfortunate demise of ASI Bagri.
The aftermath of this incident has led to swift action by the authorities. A case has been filed against the driver and his accomplice, with the third accused—the owner of the vehicle—currently evading arrest. To expedite his capture, a reward of Rs 30,000 has been announced by the police. This proactive measure aims to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
This incident is not an isolated one. Last November, another tragic event took place in the Gopalpur area of Shahdol district, where a local revenue department official lost his life under similar circumstances. He was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley used for transporting illegally mined sand from the Son River.
