Academy Unveils $500 Million Initiative For 100th Oscars Celebration.
Academy launches Academy100 initiative for global impact in film industry.
The unveiling of the venture was announced by Academy CEO Bill Kramer during a press conference held at Cinecittà studio in Rome.
Kramer remarked, “The Academy’s vision extends globally, and Academy100 will enhance our international presence and influence. As we approach our centenary, we are committed to maintaining our position as the foremost authority in the global film community. A sustainable and diverse support base is crucial for the Academy’s vitality, and we express our profound gratitude to Rolex and our partners for their pivotal role in launching this visionary initiative.”
Rolex will maintain its substantial support for the campaign, alongside dedicated sponsors such as Cinecittà, Delta Air Lines, Dagmar Dolby and family, Dorchester Collection, Drs. Melina and Eric Esrailian, Dr. Kathy Fields and Dr. Garry Rayant, PwC, Teddy Schwarzman, and George Stevens, Jr., whose combined contributions exceed $100 million.
Following the #OscarsSoWhite demonstrations in 2016, the Academy began extending invitations to a more diverse array of individuals worldwide to join its membership, resulting in a more inclusive organization. Consequently, there has been a noticeable increase in nominations and victories for non-English language films.
Per the AMPAS press release, the Academy100 initiative aims to “endow and support programs recognizing excellence in cinematic artistry and innovation; preserve cinematic heritage; facilitate the development of world-class film exhibitions, screenings, and publications; train and educate the next generation of diverse global film talents; and create compelling digital content...
“Moreover, during the Academy100 campaign, the Academy will host gatherings, events, and educational initiatives with its members and the broader film and arts communities across various global locations. This expanded international engagement aligns with the Academy's growing global presence and will contribute to nurturing new filmmakers and Academy members while bolstering the global filmmaking community. These locations include Buenos Aires, Cannes, Johannesburg, Kyoto, Lagos, London, Los Angeles, Marrakesh, Melbourne, Mexico City, Mumbai, New York, Rome, San Francisco, Seoul, Toronto, Toruń, Venice, among others.”
Additionally, the Academy Museum will unveil numerous exhibitions, film programs, and publications commemorating the 100th Oscars in 2028.
