Nirmala Sitharaman may table Union Budget in Parliament on July 22, say sources
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2024 on July 22, potentially becoming the first to deliver seven consecutive budgets.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Union Budget 2024 in Parliament on July 22, as reported by sources to CNBC-TV18. However, the final decision on the date is still pending. If this happens, Sitharaman will become the first finance minister to present seven consecutive Union Budgets, breaking the record held by Morarji Desai, who presented six in a row.
Earlier this week, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24 and will conclude on July 3. During this session, new members of the Lower House will take their oaths, and the Speaker will be elected. President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint session of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27, likely outlining the new government's roadmap for the next five years.
The initial three days of the session will be dedicated to the swearing-in of newly elected leaders and the election of the Speaker of the House.
Rijiju also mentioned that the 264th Session of the Rajya Sabha will start on June 27 and end on July 3. After the President's address on June 27, Prime Minister Modi is expected to introduce his council of ministers to Parliament.
The prime minister will then respond to the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address in both Houses of Parliament.
