Successful NEET UG candidates move SC against any move to cancel exam.
The pleas requesting the cancellation of the exam, a re-test, and a high-level investigation are scheduled for a Supreme Court hearing on July 8.
Following the successful completion of the NEET UG retest for students who received 'grace marks', over 50 NEET 2024-qualified students, including several top-ranked individuals, have petitioned the Supreme Court to prevent the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) from canceling the disputed exam.
The petitioners have requested the Supreme Court to instruct the Union Education Ministry to investigate, identify, and take strict action against students and others involved in unfair practices such as paper leaks and impersonation during the NEET-UG exam held on May 5 this year, according to news agency PTI. This new plea, filed by 56 students, comes just days before a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is set to hear 26 petitions seeking remedies such as a re-test and an investigation into the exam, which has been marred by allegations of malpractice. The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is used for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country. The NEET-UG 2024 exam took place on May 5 across 4,750 centers, with approximately 2.4 million candidates appearing.
