National teams deal with lack of toilets on Paris opening ceremony barges.
This article discusses concerns over the lack of toilets on barges for athletes during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on the River Seine, highlighting preparations and reassurances provided by officials.
The potential absence of toilets on the barges scheduled to carry athletes during Friday's Paris Olympics opening ceremony has created an unexpected challenge for national teams. The ceremony, set to take place on the River Seine with athletes aboard barges passing by hundreds of thousands of spectators, is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the games. However, some of these vessels may not be equipped with toilets.
"We, being one of the larger delegations, have not yet received confirmation on whether our boat will have a toilet, but we are hopeful," said Anna Meares, Australia's Chef de Mission, during a press conference on Saturday.
"Nevertheless, preparations are being made in case our boat lacks toilet facilities, ensuring that we have access to facilities both before boarding and upon disembarkation," she added.
Athletes will be reassured to know that the expected duration of the opening ceremony sail is approximately 45 minutes. "There will be toilets available at the boarding and disembarking points," Meares assured. "The actual sailing time will be about 40 to 45 minutes."
The Games are scheduled to continue until August 11.
