Udaipur administration razes home of student accused of stabbing his classmate.

On Saturday, the Udaipur district administration demolished the home of a boy accused of stabbing his classmate, an incident that sparked communal unrest in the city. A video released by news agency PTI showed a bulldozer tearing down the accused student's house. In response to the stabbing, mobile internet services were suspended for 24 hours in several parts of Udaipur starting Friday.

The incident occurred at a school where a class 10 student was attacked and is now receiving treatment at the district hospital. The accused, who is also a minor, is currently in detention. Following the incident, all schools in the area were ordered to close. Udaipur district collector Arvind Poswal informed PTI that a team of three doctors was flown in from Jaipur by a special aircraft to treat the injured student. Additionally, Udaipur’s divisional commissioner, Rajendra Bhatt, ordered a 24-hour suspension of mobile internet services in Udaipur city and surrounding areas, effective from 10 PM on Friday. The district collector also urged the public to disregard rumors circulating about the incident.

In the aftermath, a mob set cars on fire and threw stones, exacerbating the communal tension outside a government school in the Bhattiyani Chohatta area. The police reported that members of some Hindu groups gathered in Madhuban to protest the stabbing, leading to the violence. Shops in Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, Chetak Circle, and nearby areas were closed as tensions rose. Some violent elements also targeted a shopping mall, damaging its glass gates.

To address the situation, divisional commissioner Bhatt, district collector Arvind Poswal, SP Yogesh Goyal, Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasia, Lok Sabha MP Mannalal Rawat, MLAs Tarachand Jain, Phool Singh Meena, and other public representatives held a meeting.
