‘Crime against women an unpardonable sin’, says PM Modi.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned crimes against women as “unpardonable sins,” insisting that those responsible should face severe consequences. Speaking at the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Modi emphasized that ensuring the safety of mothers, sisters, and daughters is a national priority alongside strengthening their roles in society. He noted that he has consistently highlighted this issue from the Red Fort and expressed understanding of the anguish and anger felt by women across the country.

Modi urged all political parties and state governments to recognize that crimes against women are absolutely unforgivable. “Those guilty must not be spared,” he asserted, as reported by ANI. He also stressed that anyone aiding the perpetrators—whether in hospitals, schools, government offices, or police systems—should be held accountable for negligence at any level. “The message must be clear at every level,” he added. “Governments may come and go, but safeguarding lives and women’s dignity is a profound responsibility for both society and government.”

This statement comes in the wake of widespread protests over the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. The victim's body, marked by severe injuries, was discovered in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is handling the case following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, with the primary suspect, Sanjoy Roy, currently in judicial custody until September 6.
