Jammu and Kashmir is transformed into a prime tourist destination, says Amit Shah.

Jammu and Kashmir is a paradise where every snapshot could be a postcard. For years, travelers have flocked to this former state to experience its breathtaking natural beauty, often compared to that of Switzerland. However, the region, now a Union Territory, was once plagued by terrorism, causing many tourists to avoid it. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on September 7 that Jammu and Kashmir is entering a new era of peace and progress. He noted that the area has shifted from being a terrorism hotspot to a top tourism destination. During his two-day visit, Shah is expected to unveil the BJP's manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections and engage with party members at a 'Karyakarta Sammelan.'

"J&K is experiencing a new phase of peace and development under the Modi government. The region has evolved from a terrorism hotspot into a tourism hotspot, with significant growth in educational and economic activities," Shah wrote on X. He began the BJP's election campaign and is set to release the party’s manifesto during his visit, which started on Friday.

CNBC-TV18 previously reported that Jammu and Kashmir's tourism department saw an exceptional rise in visitor numbers, exceeding those of previous years. In 2023, the region attracted over 21.1 million tourists, providing a substantial boost to the local economy. The introduction of Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle in Gulmarg was a standout event, with plans for more high-profile events in the future.

Additionally, the region's stunning landscapes have caught the eye of the film industry, with over 50 movies filmed in its picturesque locations over the past year. This surge in cinematic interest, coupled with the government's efforts to enhance stability, has been instrumental in revitalizing the tourism sector.
