Renault Nissan's TN facility has reached 4.5 million powertrain units, supporting the production of 2.75 million cars.
Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd's Tamil Nadu facility has achieved a major milestone by producing over 4.5 million powertrain units since 2010.
Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd's manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu has reached a significant milestone, producing over 4.5 million powertrain units since its operations began in 2010, according to the company. The 600-acre facility in Oragadam serves both domestic and international markets for Renault and Nissan.
To date, the factory has produced over 2.75 million cars under the Renault and Nissan brands. It has also manufactured seven different types of engines and three types of gearboxes.
The milestone includes 2.83 million engines and 1.67 million gearboxes, as stated in a company release on Tuesday. In 2016, the facility achieved the production of its 1 millionth powertrain unit and has since produced over 160,000 "electric vehicle reducer components" for export.
Keerthi Prakash, managing director of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd, commented, "Producing 4.5 million powertrain units is a crucial milestone for RNAIPL. In addition to powering vehicles produced at our Chennai plant, we have exported powertrain units and components globally."
Looking ahead, Prakash mentioned that the company is preparing its infrastructure to manufacture engines and gearboxes for new models as part of the $600 million investment announced by the Renault Nissan alliance.
The facility also manufactures various engine components, such as cylinder heads and blocks, which are cast, machined to precise dimensions, and assembled on-site. It has the capacity to produce engines ranging from 800 cc to 1500 cc and includes necessary facilities for gearbox manufacturing, including gear and shaft machining, clutch housing machining, and gear heat treatment, as noted in the statement.
