Aman Sehrawat emerges as one of the top contenders as Bengaluru prepares to host the Wrestling Nationals.

Bengaluru, Nov 8 (PTI) – Paris Olympics bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat will lead a star-studded roster as Bengaluru prepares to host the Senior National Wrestling Championship for the first time, from December 6 to 8. Among the prominent wrestlers joining Sehrawat on the mats will be U-20 World Wrestling Champion Antim Panghal, 2019 World Championship silver medallist Deepak Punia, U23 World Champion Reetika Hooda, Olympian Sonam Malik, along with Radhika, Manisha Bhanwala, Bipasha, Priya, Udit, Chirag, Sunil Kumar, and Narinder Cheema.

The championship will take place at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium, with over 1000 participants and officials from 25 affiliated state units, as well as representatives from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) and the Services Sports Promotion Board (SSPB).

"We are proud to bring the Senior National Wrestling Championship to Karnataka for the first time," said Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh in a statement. "All of India’s top wrestlers will be competing in this event, and we’re excited to collaborate with the Karnataka Wrestling Association to ensure the championship’s success."

Notably, the organization of the National Championship by the suspended WFI had recently been challenged in court by Satyawart Kadian, the husband of Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik. The Court permitted the event to proceed but ruled that the results should not be used for ranking purposes or for determining India’s representatives in international competitions.

"We will appeal this ruling," said a WFI source. "It’s unacceptable to disregard the results of the Nationals in this way."
