Magna provides a specialized 800V hybrid drive system to a Chinese OEM.

Magna's longitudinal DHD Duo front drive system features a scalable design that supports vehicle segments from B to E, including SUVs, pickups, and light buses. The system offers flexible architecture, allowing for easy switching between P1+P3, P2+P3, and range extender configurations, and accommodates electric, serial, and parallel driving modes. With the growing global emphasis on hybrid solutions as part of broader electrification strategies, Magna has secured its first order for the Dedicated Hybrid Drive (DHD) Duo system from a prominent Chinese OEM.

The DHD Duo system delivers a high-performance longitudinal front drive with an advanced dual e-motor and multi-speed design. Its 800V high-powered system ensures a smooth, comfortable driving experience across various conditions, positioning Magna at the forefront of hybrid technology innovation.

“Our DHD Duo system reflects our commitment to delivering outstanding driving experiences that are more environmentally friendly,” said Diba Ilunga, President of Magna Powertrain. “This hybrid solution provides efficiency and versatility, meeting market demands and environmental targets without compromising on performance or comfort.”

To tackle the challenge of integrating longitudinal hybrid systems into both passenger and commercial vehicles, the DHD Duo uses compact and highly integrated dog clutch technology. This enables the system to be applied to various vehicle models without the need for structural modifications, offering unparalleled flexibility for OEMs.

As part of Magna's DHD Duo family, this front drive system is set to fill a gap in the longitudinal, multi-speed 800V hybrid transmission market. Production is slated to begin in Q3 2025 at Magna’s Nanchang facility.
