Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) announced on Monday that it has achieved the milestone of exporting 3 million cars from India, primarily to markets in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
In the first half of this financial year (April-October), the company exported 181,444 units, marking a 17.4% year-on-year growth. This contrasts with a more subdued performance in the domestic market during the same period.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of MSIL, stated, “Maruti Suzuki remains committed to extensive localization and expanding exports. Currently, 40% of passenger vehicles exported from India are from MSIL, making us the country’s leading vehicle exporter. Our success in international markets is driven by the high acceptance of MSIL’s globally recognized vehicles, known for their quality, safety, design, and technology.”
MSIL, which began exports in 1986, reached its first one million cars by 2012-13. The second million was achieved between 2012-13 and 2020-21, and the jump from two million to three million exports was accomplished in just three years and nine months. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger vehicle sales in India totaled 2.426 million units during the same period, slightly higher than the 2.412 million units sold in the previous financial year.
Meanwhile, passenger vehicle exports reached 438,000 units, reflecting a 9.74% year-on-year growth in the April-October period, as per SIAM data.
Currently, MSIL exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, with Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East being key export regions for the company.
