Maruti Suzuki teams up with the Bihar government to automate driving license test tracks.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Transport Department of the Government of Bihar to automate five driving license test tracks across the state. These tracks, located in Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia, and Saran, are designed to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and comprehensiveness of the driving license testing process.

The automated test tracks employ advanced technology to carry out the license testing without human intervention. Equipped with high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems, the tracks ensure that candidates are evaluated in compliance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). The automated and standardized testing process generates results automatically, ensuring that only qualified drivers receive licenses.

Bihar's Transport Minister, Sheela Kumari, commended Maruti Suzuki's efforts to enhance road safety. “The Automated Driving Test Tracks ensure that only competent drivers are licensed, contributing to safer roads for all. After successfully automating tracks in Aurangabad and Patna, we are pleased to partner with Maruti Suzuki again to establish five more tracks in Bihar. This initiative will significantly improve road safety and encourage responsible driving across the state,” she said.

Maruti Suzuki has been actively involved in promoting road safety in Bihar since 2018, when it launched the state’s first Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in Aurangabad. The Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Aurangabad (2020) and Patna (2021) have already shown positive outcomes, with better-prepared license applicants undergoing testing.

Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized the broader significance of this initiative. “Between 2014 and 2023, over 15.3 lakh lives were lost in road accidents, according to the Union Road Transport Ministry. Automated driving license testing plays a crucial role in enhancing driver skills and promoting traffic rule awareness. ADTTs ensure that only well-trained and skilled drivers receive licenses, helping to eliminate human errors that often lead to accidents.”

This collaboration is part of Maruti Suzuki's ongoing commitment to road safety, focusing on five key pillars—engineering, education, evaluation, enforcement, and emergency care. Currently, the company has automated 27 driving test tracks across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Haryana. With 12 more tracks being developed in Uttar Pradesh and five additional tracks in Bihar, Maruti Suzuki is on track to complete the automation of 44 test tracks nationwide.
