ZELIO Ebikes introduces the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS E-Rickshaws, with prices starting at Rs 1.40 lakh.

ZELIO Ebikes has entered the e-rickshaw market with the launch of its first models, the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. Priced at INR 1,45,000 for the Tanga Butterfly and INR 1,40,000 for the Tanga SS (ex-showroom), these e-rickshaws were previously showcased at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

The Tanga Butterfly, made from mild steel (MS), and the Tanga SS, crafted from stainless steel (SS), mark ZELIO's expansion into the shared mobility sector. These models are tailored for urban and semi-urban commuters, addressing the growing demand for last-mile connectivity in India.

Both e-rickshaws are equipped with a 1200W motor and a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, offering a top speed of 30 km/h and a range of up to 100 km on a single charge. Charging the battery takes approximately eight hours, and the vehicles come with an SMPS charger that protects against voltage fluctuations.

The Tanga Butterfly is available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS comes in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.

Kunal Arya, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ZELIO Ebikes, shared that entering the e-rickshaw segment aligns with the company’s mission to support India’s electric mobility transition. He emphasized that both the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS are designed with safety, performance, and affordability in mind, making them suitable for a wide range of customers.

Safety features include advanced braking systems with a front lever-operated drum brake, rear paddle-operated drum brake, and a hand lever-operated parking brake. The front suspension is fitted with 43mm telescopic hydraulic shockers, while the rear uses leaf spring shockers. The e-rickshaws are equipped with TVS 3.75-12 mm tires on both the front and rear wheels.

The chassis features a high-rigidity monocoque frame, with dimensions including a wheelbase of 2030 mm, a length of 2690 mm, a width of 1000 mm, a height of 1710 mm, and a ground clearance of 200 mm, making them well-suited for urban and semi-urban roads.

Additional features include a wide front glass with a wiper, LED headlamps with DRLs, LED cabin light, and LED indicators. Passenger and driver amenities include a digital meter, FM radio with double speakers, heavy curtains, a bottle holder, a cash pocket, and central locking. Accessories such as a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack are also included.

ZELIO has partnered with financing companies AKASHA and TRY Wheels to offer more accessible purchasing options. The company is also working on building a dedicated dealership network to support its new e-rickshaw range.

Since its inception in 2021, ZELIO has established a strong presence in the Indian electric vehicle market, with 273 dealerships and over 200,000 customers. The company aims to expand its dealership network to 400 by March 2025 as it continues to grow its portfolio and commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
