The meeting at COP28 follows Meloni's visit to India for the G20 Summit in September, where both leaders discussed various sectors, including trade, commerce, defence, and emerging technologies. Modi had highlighted the ongoing collaboration between India and Italy for global prosperity.

Meloni had previously visited India in March for the 8th Raisina Dialogue 2023, where she served as the chief guest. Bilateral talks with Modi at the Hyderabad House covered significant aspects of the relationship between the two nations.

Addressing a joint press briefing after the meeting, Meloni praised Modi as the most loved global leader. She acknowledged his significant leadership role and congratulated him on his widespread popularity.
