Barbara Furlow-Smiles, a former global head overseeing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Facebook, has confessed to misappropriating over $4 million (approximately Rs 32 crore) from the company. This was accomplished through the creation of fraudulent vendors, fictitious charges, and receiving cash kickbacks.

Between 2017 and 2021, Furlow-Smiles diverted these funds to sustain an extravagant lifestyle in both California and Georgia. The investigation revealed that she exploited the company's expense account system by connecting her corporate credit cards to payment platforms like PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App. This manipulation allowed her to make payments to various individuals for services that were never provided to Facebook.
