A teenager has been apprehended following the fatal stabbing of a woman in south London, triggering a police investigation into the tragic incident.
A 16-year-old boy has been apprehended by the police on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing incident in Bermondsey, south London, on Christmas Eve. The Metropolitan police responded to a call just after 10 pm reporting a 22-year-old woman with a stab wound at a residence in Spenlow House on Jamaica Road.
Emergency first aid was administered by paramedics from the London ambulance service and London’s air ambulance, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to her injuries on the scene. The Met promptly notified her family. A statement from the police indicated that urgent inquiries were underway, and the 16-year-old suspect, known to the victim, was arrested nearby shortly afterward on suspicion of murder. He is currently in custody at a south London police station.
Ch Supt Seb Adjei-Addoh, the local policing commander for Southwark, expressed condolences, stating, "This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this tough time. We recognize this will also impact the wider community, and we will have additional patrols in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance."
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Met’s specialist crime command. DCI Brian Howie emphasized the ongoing efforts to determine the circumstances leading to the young woman's death. While one person has been taken into custody, the police are urging anyone in the Spenlow House area between 7 pm and 11 pm on Sunday, December 24, to come forward with information. DCI Howie stressed the importance of any detail, no matter how seemingly insignificant at the time, and mentioned that a postmortem is scheduled for Tuesday.
