San Antonio police seek 2 'persons of interest' in deaths of pregnant teen and her boyfriend
San Antonio police are searching for two individuals of interest in connection with the deaths of a pregnant teenager and her boyfriend, found in a car.
The police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying two individuals considered "persons of interest" in the investigation into the deaths of a pregnant teenager and her boyfriend. The bodies were discovered in a car in San Antonio earlier this week.
On Thursday, San Antonio police shared a video and issued a statement seeking information about two individuals seen in the footage. One person was driving a dark pickup truck with a bed cover, and the other was driving a silver Kia Optima that belonged to one of the victims.
Before her tragic death, 18-year-old Savanah Soto, who was pregnant, was last seen in the Optima on Friday afternoon in Leon Valley, located in northwest San Antonio. At that time, officials expressed concern about her "health and safety."
The bodies of Soto and her 22-year-old boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, were found in Guerra’s Optima on Tuesday afternoon. The 79-second video, released on Thursday, shows a pickup heading in one direction, while the Optima pulls into the parking lot from the opposite direction and parks nearby. Individuals exit both vehicles and appear to converse before driving away.
The video was captured near the location where Soto's and Guerra's bodies were discovered, approximately 3 miles from where Soto was last seen on Friday. Police Chief William McManus stated on Thursday that the pickup in the video is a Chevrolet Silverado. Detectives are reviewing additional security videos from places frequented by Soto and Guerra, along with examining cellphone records and social media posts.
McManus emphasized that the authorities are making every effort to solve the case, describing the killings as a "heinous act" and "unspeakable." The deaths are being treated as capital murder. Although the possibility of a murder-suicide has been considered, McManus stated, "We’ve kind of gotten past that point right now, unless we get evidence that would lead us to believe otherwise."
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office reported on Thursday that Soto and Guerra died from gunshot wounds to the head. Soto's death was classified as a homicide, while Guerra's manner of death is pending.
It is believed that the bodies may have been in the Optima for several days before their discovery, according to McManus. Tragically, an unborn child was also killed.
When Soto went missing, she was past her delivery date, according to Leon Valley police. Her family contacted San Antonio police because she had missed an "essential medical appointment."
Soto’s family informed NBC affiliate WOAI of San Antonio that she disappeared the day before labour was scheduled to be induced. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the individuals in the video or the pickup to contact the police, and tipsters can choose to remain anonymous.
