Nearly 200 names linked to Jeffrey Epstein are expected to be made public

A New York judge may release nearly 200 names linked to the Jeffrey Epstein-Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking conspiracy as early as Tuesday. This revelation could expose or confirm the identities of associates of the disgraced financier, previously known as John and Jane Does in court documents. The deadline for objections to unsealing these names passed nearly nine years after victim Virginia Giuffre filed a defamation claim against Maxwell in 2015, leading to the disclosure of names in legal depositions.

The defamation case, filed by Giuffre, played a crucial role in exposing not only the names set to be revealed but also led to civil lawsuits, including Giuffre's action against Britain’s Prince Andrew. Despite settlements, the release of names from this ageing defamation suit may not necessarily result in criminal charges. The judge's order may, however, be an embarrassment to high-profile figures associated with Epstein.

The potential list is expected to include not only known associates and employees but also individuals who travelled on Epstein's planes. Notably, it might reveal the identities of John and Jane Does, potentially including a former US president, actors, academics, and the reclusive British prince.

According to reports, "Jane Doe 162" testified about being with Prince Andrew, Maxwell, and Giuffre at Epstein’s New York mansion when she was 17. Former US president Bill Clinton, identified as "Doe 36," is mentioned in over 50 redacted filings. Clinton's connection with Epstein has been noted in flight logs, though Giuffre made no accusations of wrongdoing. Clinton cut ties with Epstein in 2005 after allegations surfaced.

The release of depositions may offer insights into Epstein and Maxwell’s interactions, particularly after Epstein's release from detention in Florida. Epstein's scheduling diaries, revealed this year, highlighted his efforts to rebuild his network post-conviction and included names like former CIA director William Burns, White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, Noam Chomsky, Bill Gates, Woody Allen, Ehud Barak, and others.

Despite the potential disclosure, it remains uncertain whether criminal charges will follow, especially considering Epstein's death in 2019 and Maxwell’s recent conviction.
