BRICS Welcomes Five New Members Under Russian Leadership

In a historic move, Russia has assumed the BRICS 2024 chairmanship and expanded the bloc with the inclusion of five powerhouse nations - Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. Effective from January 1, 2024, these countries are now official members of the influential BRICS alliance.

Anticipation is building for the grand BRICS 2024 Summit scheduled for October in Kazan, Russia. This summit, touted as the most significant in BRICS history, is set to shape global dialogue and cooperation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, stating, "The addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as new full members signifies the increasing influence and significance of BRICS in international affairs."

Argentina, initially slated to join BRICS in 2024, withdrew its participation after the elections, rejecting the invitation extended by the bloc.

The Russian chairmanship aims to foster collaboration in politics, security, economy, finance, culture, and humanitarian affairs.
