In the last 24 hours, India has witnessed a surge in COVID cases. According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on January 5, 2023, India recorded 761 new cases. Additionally, 12 deaths were reported nationwide.
As per mygov.in data, the active case count has decreased to 4,334, marking a decline of 89 cases since Thursday. However, the total death toll has risen by 12, reaching 5,33,385.
The recovery rate remains robust, with 838 discharges reported in the past day. As of January 5, a total of 4,44,78,885 Indians have recovered from COVID-19. The overall case count in the country has reached 4,50,16,604.
Kerala and Karnataka continue to grapple with a high number of active cases, having been severely affected during the COVID and JN.1 surge. In Kerala, the active caseload has reduced to 1,249, while Karnataka has recorded 65 new cases, bringing the total to 1,240.
New cases have been reported in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Assam.
Several states, including Kerala, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Puducherry, and Ladakh, have reported recoveries.
