Trump faces $370 million in penalty demand to New York state in civil fraud case

New York's attorney general is pursuing $370 million from former President Donald Trump in a fraud case alleging he inflated property values. The court documents, filed on Friday, state that "record evidence supports disgorgement of $370 million, plus pre-judgment interest," surpassing the initially stated $250 million sought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The fraud accusations involve Trump and his two eldest sons, who are alleged to have artificially inflated real estate values to secure more favourable bank loans and insurance terms. The final amount to be paid will be determined by Judge Arthur Engoron, a target of Trump's social media attacks, and will be outlined in his ultimate decision and order.

Responding on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticized James, branding her as "totally corrupt" and claiming innocence, asserting, "My financial statements are great & very conservative. This case should never have been brought."

Separately, on March 4, Trump faces a federal trial in Washington for allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, culminating in the violent January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters. Additionally, federal charges have been levied for mishandling classified documents post-White House departure. Trump is also accused of racketeering in Georgia related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in that state.
