China, Philippines Seek Better Communication, Management of Conflicts in the South China Sea

China and the Philippines have agreed to enhance maritime communication and manage conflicts and differences through friendly talks regarding issues in the South China Sea, as stated by the Chinese foreign ministry. The eighth meeting of the China-Philippines Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea occurred in Shanghai, with China's Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong and the Philippines' Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Theresa Lazaro co-chairing the discussions.

Despite recent confrontations in disputed waters of the South China Sea, both nations reaffirmed that the dispute is not the sole focus of their bilateral relations. The statement emphasized maintaining communication and dialogue to ensure maritime peace and stability. Both parties agreed to handle maritime conflicts and differences through friendly consultations, particularly addressing the situation around the Second Thomas Shoal (Renai Reef), where tensions have escalated.

The South China Sea dispute involves territorial claims by multiple countries, including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. China asserts sovereignty over a significant portion of the South China Sea, leading to disagreements and occasional confrontations with neighbouring nations.

Despite strained relations in recent months, China and the Philippines committed to dialogue and agreed to advance practical maritime cooperation. The goal is to create favourable conditions for the sound and stable development of China-Philippines relations.

In a separate development, China summoned the ambassador from the Philippines on Tuesday, warning against playing with fire after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Taiwan's president-elect Lai Ching-te on his election victory. China demanded adherence to the one-China principle, while the Philippines reiterated its commitment to the one-China policy. Diplomatic interactions continue as both nations navigate complex issues.

चीन और फिलीपींस द्वारा दक्षिण चीन सागर में संघर्षों के बेहतर संवाद और प्रबंधन की मांग।
