Retired judges of the SC bench that delivered the 2019 Ayodhya verdict were invited to the Ram Temple event

Retired members of the Supreme Court constitution bench that delivered the historic judgment in the 2019 Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case have received invitations to attend the consecration of the Ram temple on January 22. This includes the then Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, his successor S A Bobde, and former judges Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer. Current CJI D Y Chandrachud, who was also part of the bench, has also been invited to the event.

Over 50 jurists, comprising nine former Chief Justices of India, judges, and lawyers, have been included in the list of invitees. The invitation extends to key figures such as senior advocate K Parasaran, who represented "Ram Lalla Virajman" in the case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, and former Attorney General K K Venugopal.

In the landmark verdict on November 9, 2019, the constitution bench awarded the entire 2.77-acre disputed land to Ram Lalla Virajman, a plaintiff from the Hindu side. The Uttar Pradesh government was directed to provide a five-acre plot at an alternate location to the Sunni Central Waqf Board to construct a mosque.

Among the notable figures, former CJI Gogoi has transitioned to being a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, while Justice Bobde, who assumed the position of CJI shortly after the Ayodhya verdict, retired in April 2021. Justice Bhushan retired in July 2021, and Justice Nazeer is currently serving as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

The inclusivity of individuals pivotal to the legal proceedings underscores the symbolic importance of the event. The involvement of esteemed legal minds, including those who played significant roles in the historic judgment, further emphasizes the commemoration of the temple consecration as a momentous occasion in India's legal and cultural landscape.
