Farmers and Bhana Sidhu Supporters Defy Security, Protest Near Punjab CM's Residence Over Influencer's Arrest, Highway Blocked.
Defying stringent security measures by Punjab Police, hundreds of farmers, along with supporters of social media influencer Bhana Sidhu, managed to approach within a few kilometers of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence. Protesting the arrest of Sidhu, they blocked the Bathinda-Chandigarh national highway, staging a sit-in and chanting slogans against Punjab Police. Despite efforts to fortify Sangrur and prevent protesters from reaching the CM's house, a significant gathering near Mann's residence persisted. The entire district was transformed into a fortress with multiple security layers. Farmer leaders Ruldu Singh Mansa and Kaka Singh Kokda were hindered from marching towards Sangrur, and others en route to the protest site were detained. ADGP (Law and Order) GS Dhillon and Patiala Range DIG HS Bhullar arrived at the protest site to assess the situation. When questioned about the handling of the situation, Dhillon assured that the scenario was under control, stating, "We will take action if the protesters take the law into their hands." The controversy revolves around Sidhu's arrest by Mohali police, accusing him of extortion, threats, and verbal abuse directed at the owner of an immigration firm. The influencer was remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Wednesday. As tensions rise and protests intensify, the authorities are grappling with maintaining order while addressing the grievances of the agitators. The farmers' demonstration and the support for Sidhu underscore broader concerns within the community, necessitating a delicate balance between law enforcement and addressing the issues that have fueled the protests. The evolving situation will likely shape future interactions between the government and protesting factions.
