Electoral Bonds: SC Rejects SBI's Plea For Time Extension, Directs It To Furnish Details By Tomorrow.

On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed the State Bank of India's (SBI) request for an extension to provide electoral bond details to the Election Commission. Instead, it instructed the country's largest bank to submit the information by the close of business on March 12, Tuesday. Additionally, the apex court mandated the poll panel to display this information on its website by 5 pm on March 15. The court cautioned the SBI chairman and managing director that failing to comply with the order within the specified timeline could result in contempt proceedings. In a significant ruling on February 15, a five-judge Constitution bench invalidated the Centre's electoral bonds scheme, which allowed anonymous political funding, deeming it "unconstitutional."

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the SBI to reveal details regarding donors, the donated amounts, and the recipients by March 13.

Last week, the SBI petitioned the court to extend the deadline for disclosing bond details until June 30.
