Election Commission to announce poll dates for general elections tomorrow, along with dates for four Assembly polls. PM Modi-led NDA seeks a third term.
The Election Commission is set to unveil the polling schedule for the upcoming general elections on Saturday, March 16, at 3 pm. This announcement will be broadcast live on the ECI's social media platforms.
In a brief statement on X, the ECI also revealed that it will announce the dates for four Assembly elections, which are expected to take place around the same time. The states expected to go to polls in April/May are Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim, while Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand are scheduled to vote later in the year.
This announcement marks the beginning of the electoral battle, with the Narendra Modi-led NDA government aiming for a rare third term. The Model Code of Conduct, which prohibits the ruling government from making any new policy decisions, will come into effect immediately after the announcement. The current Lok Sabha's term ends on June 16, necessitating the formation of a new House before then. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, the polls were announced on March 10 and conducted in seven phases starting April 11, with the results declared on May 23.
