The bill allocates $886 billion to the Defense Department, including pay raises for U.S. troops. While some senators praised the bill as a national security measure, opponents criticized its cost and potential impact on inflation.
The last government shutdown occurred during Donald Trump's presidency in 2018-2019 over funding for a border wall. Greene's attempt to oust Speaker Johnson echoes past party divisions, but she indicated it was more of a warning than an immediate action.
