NCP leader Ajit Pawar hints at Baramati candidate reveal on Mar 28, confirms coalition seat-sharing.
Keeping the suspense alive regarding its candidate for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat, NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated on Tuesday that the Mahayuti coalition's seat-sharing arrangement had been finalized, with an official announcement scheduled for March 28. Additionally, he confirmed Sunil Tatkare's renomination from the Raigad Lok Sabha constituency.
"After completing 99 per cent of the seat-sharing discussions, with the finalization of the Mahayuti seat-sharing formula, we will jointly announce the details in a press conference featuring Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and myself," Pawar disclosed following a meeting with party leaders, MLAs, and ministers in the city.
Regarding Sunetra Pawar's potential candidacy for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat, Pawar opted to maintain secrecy, stating, "Let's retain some intrigue about Baramati. The identity you have in mind will be unveiled on March 28."
Asked about the contentious remarks made by Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare, Ajit Pawar chose not to engage, asserting, "I prefer not to address that. In a democracy, individuals have the liberty to express themselves as they see fit."
Pawar also announced the return of former Shiv Sena MP Shivajirao Adhalrao-Patil to the NCP fold, stating, "He was previously associated with the NCP before joining the Shiv Sena. Now, he is rejoining our party. At a rally in Manchar today, I will disclose the identity of the second candidate."
In the discussions within the Mahayuti coalition, the NCP had asserted its claim over the Shirur seat, which was also sought by the Shiv Sena. A resolution was reached with the BJP proposing that Shiv Sena's Adhalrao contest on an NCP ticket, a move which Adhalrao himself confirmed. Pawar additionally declared Dhananjay Munde as the party's election chief, elaborating, "Each MLA and minister will oversee one assembly constituency, advocating not only for NCP candidates but also those of our coalition partners such as the BJP, Shiv Sena, and RSP... We are committed to ensuring that Narendra Modi secures a third term as Prime Minister."
